How We Started
Origin Coffee was founded in Calgary by a small team of specialty coffee obsessives who kept asking the same question: why is it so hard to know where your coffee actually comes from? Most roasters buy through brokers. Most bags list a country and nothing more.
We decided to do it differently. We travel to origin, cup at the source, and build direct relationships with the cooperatives and washing stations producing the lots we carry. Every bag we sell — retail or wholesale — is traceable to a specific region, process, and harvest.
We started with Ethiopia because it's where coffee began. Yirgacheffe and Sidama remain our focus — not because we haven't looked elsewhere, but because the complexity and consistency we find there is genuinely hard to match.
How We Source
Direct relationships
We work with cooperatives and washing stations directly — no brokers, no middlemen. Farmers receive fair prices and we receive full traceability.
Cupped at origin
Every lot we carry has been cupped in-country before purchase. We don't buy blind. If it doesn't score, it doesn't ship.
Specialty only
We source exclusively specialty-grade Ethiopian lots — selected for defect count, screen size, and cup quality.
Full traceability
Every bag includes region, process, cooperative, and harvest year. You know exactly what you're drinking and where it came from.
